Education Boxes for Schools
A unique and fascinating collection of materials, which provides a wide range of teaching opportunities related to the National Curriculum, especially in the area of historical enquiry. These boxes use Regimental Archives of diaries, letters, photographs, uniforms and other museum artefacts to tell the stories of local men of the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment), The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment (29th/45th Foot) and The Mercian Regiment. These boxes cover multiple events of national interest and their relation to the local community.
Loans Box Details
Items
Items within this box cover equipment used by the Mercian Regiment from c. 1881 – 2025. Items include:
- First World War Army Boots
- Modern Army Boots
- Handkerchief
- British Smoke Hood
- Eye shield
- General Service Respirator (GSR)
- World War One Steel Helmet
- Modern Helmet
- Body Armour
- Pelvic Protection System
- 1914 Pattern Bandoleer

Also included in the boxes are three folders containing handling instructions, an activity booklet with cross curricular lessons and worksheets.

Although not every activity will be suitable for younger years, this box includes lessons which are suitable for:

Resources can be booked up to 1 year in advance and are processed by Access Artefacts. Access Artefacts is based at the Communities Courtyard at Wollaton Park in Nottingham. Our address is Communities Courtyard, Wollaton Road, Wollaton Park, Nottingham, NG8 2AD. North Nottinghamshire Schools can collect and return resources at Newstead Abbey Shop, with prior arrangement.
Individual loans are £90 (plus VAT) per resource or up to 8 cased items, for a half term loan. Loan fees are charged the week following the collection of the resource.
Your slots for collection and return will be confirmed at the time of booking. This will be in the first and last week of the half term.
A delivery and collection service is available up to 10 miles from our store in Wollaton. The fee is £20 and covers delivery and collection of your resources for that half term. Charges are per delivery and not per resource. You can still collect your resources from our store for free. We cannot deliver over 10 miles.
