1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment
Private Bullous served with the 2nd Battalion in the Tirah Expedition of 1897.
He later served with the 1st Battalion “C” Company in the Boer War of 1899-1902 and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (as reported in the London Gazette of the 27th of September 1901). Bullous had assisted in the removal of a wounded man under heavy Boer fire at Driefontein on 31st of December 1900. This was a very long and tedious job as the wounded man had broken his pelvic bone and could neither walk nor ride.
He transferred to No.2 Mounted Infantry on the 1st of September 1901 and was with the 9th Mounted Infantry Company. He was not permitted to travel with the Battalion to Hong Kong and transferred to pay of the 1st Battalion with Kings Own Scottish Border regiment from the 1st of September 1902.
Bullous also served in France with the 1st Battalion “A” company, arriving there in December 1914, during the Great War. He was wounded on the 25th of January 1915 but survived the war.
Bullous was awarded: the Distinguished Conduct Medal; the Indian Medal with clasp Punjab; the Queen’s South Africa Medal with clasps Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Cape Colony and Orange free State.
