Private M. Cahill was born in approximately 1829 in Listowel, Kerry, Ireland. He served in the 95th Derbyshire Regiment of Foot during the Crimean War of 1854-56.

On the 1st October 1869, he was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
