Private Thomas Daniel was born in 1788 in Doddington Lincolnshire.  He was 5 foot 9 inches tall and had blue eyes, brown hair and was a Labourer by Trade. He enlisted into the 45th Nottinghamshire Regiment of Foot on the July 1806 when aged 18 years and volunteered into the 1st Battalion on the 22nd June 1808. He served in the Peninsula War of 1808-1814 and was severely wounded in the thigh at Orthes. He was discharged on the 6th November 1814 and was granted a pension at Chelsea on the 13th September 1853.
