Private Martin Delaney was born in approximately 1918 in Bolton, Lancashire and was the son of Martin and Elizabeth Delaney. He enlisted on the 20th June 1940 and served with the 14th Battalion. 

He was wounded on the 14th March 1944 whilst fighting at Anzio. He was sadly killed in action on the 9th April 1944 during operations in or during the break-out from the Anzio Beach Head, Italy at the age of 26 years. He is buried at Beach Head Cemetery, XII. B. I., Italy.
