Ensign Alexander Fawcett joined the 95th Derbyshire Regiment of Foot and served with the Regiment during the Crimean War of 1854-55. On the 1st May 1855 and joined the 95th in camp before Sebastopol in January 1856.  

He accompanied the Regiment to India and served and the Indian Rebellion of 1857-58. He was promoted to Lieutenant on the 7th July 1857. 

On the 5th September 1858, he was sadly killed in action at Beejapore, Central India at the age of 19 years after being shot in the chest. He is buried alongside Private John O’Keefe (3088) under a tree on rising ground near the river of Beejapore, India. 2o years later, an inscribed bronze cross was placed over his grave.
