Bulger Richard Forman was born in Trowell, Nottinghamshire. He was the son of William and Ellen Forman of 23, Midland Avenue, Lenton, Nottinghamshire.  

He served with the 1st Battalion during the Boer War of 1899-1902 and arrived with the Volunteer Service Company on the 10th April 1900 and was with “D” Coy. He arrived back in Nottingham on the 29th April 1901.
