15th (Bantam) Battalion The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment
Captain Arthur Frank Newman Henstock first enlisted with the Welsh Fusiliers, as a Private, in January 1915. He would serve during the Great War.
Arthur became a 2nd Lieutenant with the 13th Battalion, the Sherwood Foresters in August 1915. He would later become a Lieutenant with the 15th Bantam Battalion on the 24th of April 1917. He would remain with the battalion for the remainder of his service.
Arthur served with the 15th Battalion in the Somme area until October 1917, and then in the Ypres Salient until the 9th of March 1918, when they moved back to France. He was awarded a Military Cross for gallantry during his service with the battalion, and it was reported in the London Gazette on the 1st of January 1918. Unfortunately, the details of his gallantry displayed to be awarded the Military Cross remain unknown.
Sadly, Arthur was killed in action on the 22nd of March 1918.
