Harry was born 1893 in Sneinton, Nottingham. He was the oldest of five children born to Harry and Mary Hutchinson. In 1911, he and his brother Tom were working in the printing industry.  

Harry enlisted in The Australian Imperial Force on 12th August 1916 aged 23. He was working as a labourer in Melbourne at the time.  

A year earlier his brother, Tom, had enlisted with the 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment. Unfortunately, he was killed in action September 1916.  

In July 1917 Harry was sent as reinforcements to the 46th Battalion in France. They had just suffered massive losses during the First Battle of Bullecourt. The Battalion spent the rest of 1917 in Belgium, where they fought at Messines and Passchendaele.  

In March 1918, Harry made a will. In it he instructed that his deferred payment and one third of the money in his bank account to be given to his mother, the other two thirds would be given to his fiancé.    

Just a month later, he was killed in action on 3rd April 1918.
