Private Horace William Leavesley was born in Nottingham in 1895 and was the son of Walter and Sarah Leavesley. He lived at 5 Mosely Terrace, Churchfield Lane, Radford. In 1911, he was working as a carriage stationer in a lace factory before joining the 9th Battalion and went with them to Gallipoli, landing in 1915 and later served in Egypt prior to being sent to France in July 1916. Horace was sadly Killed in Action, when in the attack near Ovillers, France on 26th September 1916 aged 21 years. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial in France.
