Archibald was born in Ilkeston, Derbyshire and would go on to enlist into the Regiment on the 25th of October 1915. He was given the early number 4732 before being given the number 201742.  

Archibald’s Battalion arrived in France, during the Great War, on 25th February 1915. Unfortunately, we do not know when Archibald joined the 1/5th abroad, although it is likely he participated in their action in 1916 including at the Battle of the Somme. However, it is known that he received the Silver War Badge in 1917 due to sickness. He would be discharged on the 23rd of March 1917.  

Sadly, Archibald died on the 27th of January 1918, aged 28.
