Lieutenant Albert MacKintosh lived at 14 Colville Terrace, Colville Street, Nottingham. He first enlisted with the Royal Engineers as a Corporal, with the Army Number 50197. He began serving in France on the 6th of September 1915.  

Albert joined the 1/6th Battalion at Verquin on the 16th of January 1918 and was given the commission of 2nd Lieutenant with the Sherwood Foresters Territorial Force on the 30th of January 1918. He is shown in the 3rd Battalion Roll of Officers Casualties 1914-18 book, as ‘To Expeditionary Force France’, on the 14th of June 1918.  

Albert was wounded at Ascession Spur during an attack on St Quentin Canal on the 29th of September 1918 for which he received the Military Cross. He oversaw some scouts when the line was held up by machine gun fire on both flanks. Albert took over all the men who were near him and, though he was shot through the wrist, he collected his scouts and kept touch between companies for two hours. He refused to leave and have his wound dressed until the situation was resolved.  

After his Christmas Leave from the 31st of December 1918 to the 11th of January 1919, Albert was to report to the 51st Graduated Battalion Notts and Derbys at Brocton on the 15th of January 1919.
