Drummer William McIntyre was enlisted by special dispensation from the War Office when aged 8 years. He served with the 95th (Derbyshire) Regiment of Foot. 

His service included the Indian Rebellion of 1857-8, an uprising against the British East India Company’s rule in the country. William was aged 11 and a half years when awarded the campaign medal. 

He would in later service be invalided home via the Suez Canal in 1870. Early in 1870 the Regiment had moved from Mhow to Bombay, which is likely where William was when he was invalided out. 

It is also likely that William had a court martial whilst at home in 1874. It has been recorded that a Drummer William McIntyre of the 95th Foot had a court martial on the 1st April 1874 in Manchester. Sadly, it has not been possible to ascertain why the court martial was necessary. 

William rejoined the Regiment in 1878, when they were in Ireland. Sadly, he died soon afterwards aged 31.
