95th Derbyshire Regiment of Foot
95th (Derbyshire) Regiment of Foot
Private James Moore served with the 2nd Battalion of The Sherwood Foresters, known at the time as the 95th (Derbyshire) Regiment of Foot. He had regimental number 870.
James served with the 95th for a long time which led him to be awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, on the 1st of April 1874.
This was the year when riotous behaviour took place in several manufacturing places in England. The 95th “A” and “C” companies were sent to Lincoln, along with some non-commissioned officers and men from “B” and “D” companies. The Mayor and Magistrates of the city would later thank the Regiment for their work.
