Private Clement Pinchin was born in Worksop and was in the employment of Messrs Eyre and Co., Worksop, Nottinghamshire for a considerable time. He worked as a cabinet maker and French polisher. He enlisted into the 8th Reserve Battalion on the 10th December 1915.  

He later moved to Hastings to be near his wife Lily Violet Farrant, whom he married in 1912. Together they had three children named Maisie Clemency, Clement Frank and Brenda Lily. 

After 18 months, he returned to Worksop and joined the 1st Battalion on the 22nd September 1916. He served in the United Kingdom until the 17th June 1915 when he embarked for France. He returned  on the 2nd April 1918. 

He served with the 1st Battalion in ‘D’ Company and was awarded the Military Medal for gallantry at the age of 26 years. He was wounded four times during his service in the Great War being wounded for the fourth time on the 24th March 1918 during the German Spring Offensive beginning on the 21st March 1918, this marked the deepest advances by either side since 1914. He suffered a severe shrapnel flesh wound in the left buttock. 

On the 19th September 1918 he was transferred to the 3rd Battalion.
