Private Skelton served with the 4th Volunteer Battalion, which later became the 8th Battalion based at Newark in Nottinghamshire.  

In 1911 Private Skelton was issued the Coronation Medal. Only five were awarded to the Battalion and they could only be issued for either, participation in the coronation or, public service. These were the first Coronation Medals awarded to those not actually present at the ceremony itself. 

Unfortunately, no other information can be found about Skelton's service. 

In addition to the Coronation Medal, he was also awarded the Volunteer Force Long Service Medal (VFLS) for 20 years' service in the ranks of the Volunteer Force.
