1st & 2nd Battalions The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment
Arthur was born in Winwick, Huntingdonshire and enlisted into the Regiment at Derby, joining the 2nd Battalion. He served with the 2nd during the Tirah Expedition of 1897-98 and for his service was awarded the India Medal with clasps Punjab Frontier 1897-98 and Tirah 1897-98.
However, the India Medal was forfeited under article 1255 Royal Warrant, Arthur having been found guilty of an offence under section 18 of the Army Act. The medal was eventually restored back to him on the 30th of October 1903.
Following the end of the Tirah Expedition, Arthur went on to serve with “E” Company of the 1st Battalion in the Boer War of 1899-1902. Sadly, he was wounded during action at Vlakfontein on the 29th of May 1901, but fortunately recovered.
Arthur sadly passed away on the 25th of January 1915.
