John Sutton served in the Great War of 1914-18 with the Royal Air Force as a Flight Cadet.   

He was commissioned into The Sherwood Foresters as a 2nd Lieutenant on the 15th of March 1940 and by the 13th of July 1942 was a Temporary Major.  John transferred to the Military Provost Staff, South East Asia Command with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and amongst other places he served in Rangoon, Burma.  He also served in the Second World War (1939-45).
