There isn’t much known about Sergeant Thomas Arthur Thompson. According to his army pension records, he was born 1882 and resided in Retford, Nottinghamshire.
Thomas enlisted with the 2nd November 1911 7th (Robin Hood) Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment) which was a Territorial Force. The Robin Hoods formed three battalions during World War I and served along the Western Front. In 1912 he competed in the National Rifle Association Imperial Metting at Bisley Camp.
He was honourably discharged 18th June 1919 due to wounds or sickness and received the Silver War Badge.
