Private Alfred Thorne was born in 1885 and came from Mansfield.   

He enlisted on the 14th of June 1916. Alfred served in France from 1916 to 1918, and during this time the 10th Battalion saw action including at: Fricourt (July 1916), Arras (April 1917) and Bapaume (December 1917).   

Alfred was discharged on the 6th of December 1918.  He died in 1935 when only aged 50 years.
