Medal Information

Corporal Joseph Winfield
2379
The Sherwood Foresters Notts and Derbys

1/6th Battlion The Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment

Corporal Joseph Winfield served with The Sherwood Foresters in the Great War (1914-18). He had the early regimental number 2379, and later number 265467.

Joseph first served with the 1/7th (Robin Hoods) Battalion. They were based at Derby Road, Nottingham, when war was declared. The Battalion landed in France in February 1915, presumably with Joseph with them.

He later transferred Battalion to the 1/6th Battalion. It is unknown exactly when Joseph transferred battalion. In October to November 1918, the Battalion saw action at: Montbrehain, Regnicourt, Andigny, Prisches and Cartignes. It is likely Joseph saw action with the battalion at this time.

Joseph was discharged on the 19th of February 1919.
