Private Woolley born in Nottingham, joined the Regiment in 1913. A year later, when the First World War began, he left for France in October 1914 with the 2nd Battalion. And then went to Gallipoli with the 9th Battalion and then returned to France in 1916 and returned to the 2nd Battalion. He was wounded June 1918 and then served in the reserves from 1925 until he was discharged in 1929. Private Woolley reenlisted into the Royal Engineers (what was the old 7th (Robin Hood Rifles) Battalion. On the outbreak of the Second World War, he transferred to the Royal Artillery, then to the General Service Corps and finally to the Pioneer Corps in 1943. Private Woolley was then discharged in 1945.
